As of 25 May 2022, a cumulative of five cases (four confirmed and one probable) have been recorded, with a case fatality ratio of 100%.
The outbreak remains confined to the Equateur province of the country, with three affected health areas:
- Libiki and Health Area in Mbandaka Health Zone
- Motema Pembe Health Area in Mbandaka Health Zone
- Mama Balako Health Area in Wangata Health Zone.
Detailed investigations are still ongoing to determine the source of the outbreak as well as to identify exposure history of cases and contacts. Active case finding to quickly detect any new suspected cases remains ongoing.
